Every artistic creation is like a train journey, forging a unique path on the tracks. Today, we are honoured to invite the five artists of the exhibition “Mind the Gap” to share their trajectories in creative exploration and self-transcendence.

💬What message do you hope to convey through the artworks presented in this exhibition?

🗣️Each artist has undergone a unique exploratory journey during the creative process. This exhibition expresses our individual states after graduating with a Higher Diploma in Fine Art, emphasising how we can express inner feelings and thoughts through art when facing life’s challenges and transformations. We hope the audience can see that the process of artistic creation is not static but continuously evolves with life experiences and insights. This growth and change are at the core of our creations. We also hope that they can resonate with our personal stories through our works, inspiring their own reflections and emotions, thereby finding connections between art and their own lives.

💬How would you describe your artistic style and the materials you use? Can you summarise the process from initial concept to completion of the work?

🗣️Our artistic styles are distinct, yet all emphasise the expression of personal experiences, primarily using painting as the medium. Our creative process typically begins with an observation or insight from life, followed by repeated experimentation and reflection that ultimately transforms into concrete artworks. Throughout this process, we constantly explore and adjust, aiming to make the works reflect our inner worlds. This is not only a technical challenge but also an emotional release.

💬Who initiated the joint exhibition among the five graduates? What prompted you?

🗣️The concept for the joint exhibition was initially proposed by Chung Cheuk Wing, stemming from our reflections on our respective graduation works and the desire to communicate and showcase our growth and changes on the same platform. During the exhibition’s opening, we can engage with guests and other artists, share our works, and receive feedback from the audience, which is beneficial for enhancing the artists’ creative levels.

💬What interesting experiences can you share from the process of organising the exhibition?

🗣️During preparation for the exhibition, we had the opportunity to discuss the themes and concepts together, share creative inspirations and techniques, and collaboratively choose the layout design for the exhibition. For example, the unexpected design of the venue on the day of set-up—the green line on the wall.
