Exhibition Statement
“Jockey Club ICH+ Innovative Heritage Education Programme” aims to promote, redefine and revitalise the ICH of Hong Kong with a holistic integration of investigation, education and revitalisation. It has been one of Hong Kong Art School’s largest public education programmes since 2018, with annual showcases held at major art & cultural supporting sites including Sam Tung Uk Museum, chi K11 art space, and Hysan Place.
The showcase in 2024 will synergise 3 sites: Jao Tsung-I Academy (Lai Chi Kok), Hong Kong Arts Centre (Wan Chai) and Youth Square (Chai Wan). The Youth Square site shall feature 3 ICH techniques: Steamer Making (蒸籠), Guangcai (廣彩), and Dough Figurine (麵塑). The public will see in person innovatively crafted artwork created by alumni of the ICH+’s Pass It On programme — now contemporary artists who have learnt such techniques from ICH masters first-hand. Visitors will also learn about the background of a range of ICH items via panel displays, and participate in workshops conducted by the programme’s alumni.
