‘Culturing’ borrowed the meaning from the laboratory technique of growing microorganisms in a particular condition for research and development purposes. Culturing appeared not at the beginning nor the end, but defined the process, evolution, transformation and metamorphosis. As such, culturing also represented the graduating students who had grown and cultivated their art practices throughout the pandemic years.
This year’s Graduate Exhibition of the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) programme* was the culmination of the studies of 35 graduating students. Presenting in a diversity of art forms, which include painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography, installation and video, the works represented the collective call of the graduating students in their understanding and pursuit of art.
Like the act of culturing, the Graduate Exhibition was neither the beginning nor the end; it was the process of evolution and creation of the graduating students, who would continue their art making with the cultivated mind, passion and belief in the future.
