Throwing: Shaping and Decoration (Wednesday Class)
The decorations on pottery serve not only as aesthetic embellishments but also have practical applications.
In ancient times, pottery was handcrafted and then paddled with clay to make it denser and more durable. This paddling process left patterns or rope marks on the pottery, which added to its beauty and made it less slippery to hold.
Incorporating decorations into thrown pieces enriches the body of the pottery. Everyday objects can be pressed onto the clay to create unique and distinctive patterns.
