This course continues to explore the possible relationships between art and cultural theory.
The attempt this time is made through reading popular culture with the following topics: “Youth: Attraction or Fear?”; “Mourning for the Lost Youth in Popular Culture”; and “Youth and Popular Culture: The Art of Being ‘Earnest.’”
We will discuss popular culture across time and place with reference to
Nietzsche, Baudelaire, Walter Benjamin, Adorno, Barthes, John Fiske, Marx, Marshall Berman, and more.

Dr. FONG Ho Yin
Dr. FONG Ho Yin teaches literary and cultural studies in various tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. He is writing a book tentatively entitled as Walking Everyday Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Taipei in Literary and Cultural Studies. He received a PhD degree in Comparative Literature at the University of Hong Kong in 2007.
