Relaxed Portrait Painting in Oil
This course provides an introductory yet systematic approach to portrait painting step by step. The tutor will lead the students to study the structure of head, facial feature, form & volume, linear & painterly manner, thick & thin application and colour balance. Great works from both classical & modern period will be discussed.
Oil is the main medium, and pencil or charcoal is used for study and exploration. Photograph is used mostly for reference, and life model will be arranged in some sessions.
Students will be able to have a keen eye for appreciation, acquire better technique, and to own painted portrait for the beloved one after the course.
*Students should bring their own rag cloth and kitchen towel for classes.
Tutor
Steven Leung
Acquired his B.A. & M.F.A from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He taught at various institutions including the Department of Fine Art at CUHK & CUSCS, SCOPE (City University of Hong Kong) & IVE(KT) on a part-time basis. He has also been teaching a range of programmes such as CVA, DFA, HDFA & BA at Hong Kong Art School since 2000. Steven’s art focuses on portraiture and still life to convey human relationships & memories. Solo exhibitions include Portrait Painting by Leung Man Ho, Heads & Parts- Portrait Sculptures & Drawings by Leung Man Ho Steven, Domestica- Painting, Drawing & Paper-cut by Steven Leung & When Will I See You Again – Figure Paintings & Drawings by Steven Leung.
