Embodiment of Cultural Theory in Art: On Corpse and Corpus
This 14th course in the lecture series of art and cultural theory continues to discuss how art and cultural theory share a relationship of tangential intimacy in which theory is not applied to but implied in, art; in other words, how theory can be “embodied” in art.
Our current focus is on the body and how theory can be read through artistic representation of the body? How can we appreciate art through theoretical discussion of the body? And, how can we exercise our bodily senses through art and theory?
This course ignites a dialogue between body and mind through art and cultural theory. Major theorists of reference include Plato, Nietzsche, Fanon, Bataille, Deleuze, Žižek, Lefebvre, Derrida, Judith Butler, Susan Sontag, Sarah Kofman, Jean Luc-Nancy, and more.
