Art & Cultural Theory: On Love
“What do we really mean when we talk about love?” This course attempts to answer that very question, inspired by the title of Raymond Carver’s short story, through art and cultural theory.
We will examine an array of creative expressions — sculpture, painting, film, performance art, theatre, and more — while addressing topics such as heterosexuality, homosexuality, lesbianism, motherly love and beyond.
While this course builds on previous studies in art and cultural theory, it can also serve as a standalone exploration. No prior knowledge is required, as it may impede our deeper understanding of love.
