Tribute to Photography Masters
Everyone has a smartphone or traditional camera these days, so taking decent pictures has become quite easy. But what distinguishes your photos from others? Are clear and vivid images enough to satisfy you? If the answer is no, this course is your chance to re-examine photography and create a personal series of works.
We will cover the history of photography, discussing various materials and tools as well as the works and techniques of photographers in different eras. Students will ultimately select a photographer as their study subject and produce their own unique photo series.
This course is suitable for students who have basic understanding of photography and wish to further enhance their skills by creating a personal collection of works.
Tutor
So Hing Keung
So graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours) in Photographic Design from Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has worked as lecturer in Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Art School, and he is currently a part-time lecturer in the Department of Fine Arts, Chinese University of Hong Kong.
He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions around the globe since 19850s including Paris, Berlin, New York, Toronto, Russia, Vienna, Mainland China and Hong Kong, to name a few. His most recent solo exhibitions are The Hue of Hong Kong (2022) and Hello! How are you? (2019) and group exhibitions are Desire to Fly (2023) and ACC 60th Anniversary Exhibition (2022). Among his many accolades, he was awarded Photographic Fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council in 1995, one-year Fellowship for Artistic Development and Award Visual Artist of the Year by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 1998 and 2023. He won the Prize of Excellence at the Hong Kong Art Biennial 2001 and the Judges and seven Gold Awards by the Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographers in 1997 and 1999.
So’s works are collected by public and private collectors including Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Heritage Museum and City University Hong Kong, and have been auctioned successfully at Sotheby’s. He has involved in art and photography projects with international brands, such as Louis Vuitton, United Colours of Benetton, Fujifilm and Olympus.
